1969 Mercury Comet Sports Coupe - Dark Ivy Green.
Edsel Ford introduced the Mercury in 1939 as a model to fill the gap between the basic Ford, and the luxury Lincoln.
The Comet was built from 1960-77, initially, it was based on the Falcon. From 1966 it was based on the intermediate sized Fairlane and then from 1971 back to a compact, this time based on the Maverick.
The 1968-69 fourth generation got new more rounded sheetmetal, it shared their chassis and many parts with Ford's mid-sized Fairlane and Torino. 1969 saw a new grille, headlight surrounds were removed and restyled tail lights.
The base model was the Comet 2 door Hardtop
Mid spec was now the Montego with V8, better interior with simulated walnut trim, available in 2 door Hardtop and 4 door Sedan
and top luxury model, the Montego MX available in 2 door Hardtop or Convertible, 4 door Sedan or Wagon (Brougham option available)
The sporty model was the Cyclone and Cyclone GT 2 door Fastback, they got body stripes, bucket seats and better suspension(Cyclone Spoiler and Cyclone Cobra Jet introduced in 1969) The Cyclone Spoiler II was produced for NASCAR racing, it had a more aerodynamic front. Race versions had the Boss 429 engine.
